In order to get a foot in the door of this competitive industry, hopeful fashion designers need to hone their skills through a degree program. Students interested in the field can earn an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in fashion design, where they take courses in computer-aided fashion design, the history of fashion, textiles, figure drawing, and pattern making. Fashion designers may also complete degrees in fashion merchandising to train for a job, which has a curriculum that covers merchandise planning, retail sales promotion, consumer behavior, retail management, and product development.

So the very first question you should ask yourself is,"How to choose best fashion school for your carrer". The first thing is to check the courses that are been taught in that school, location of the school, the environment, good learning facilities and equipments and most importantly the population of the
students. The more the students, the less attention given to each student. A good fashion school would teach all the core courses in fashion namely ;pattern making, garment construction (tailoring), fashion sketches/illustration, surface ornaments, history of fashion and costume. Full understanding in these courses will definitely qualify you to be a fashion designer.

A good fashion school should not be located in a noisy area. During your classes, a full attention is needed and constant brainstorming of new fashion ideas. Noise is one of the most disturbing element in learning. So a good fashion school should be located around a cool calm environments. A good fashion schools should have a good learning facilities installed. You wouldn't want to attend a school with no enough chair to seat, less machines for practice, little pattern table and equipments. Such place do not qualify to be fashion school.

A good fashion school should accommodate less students so as to channel its strengths to achieving the main aim of the school(success). A fashion institutions where they are 50-100 students and 1-5 instructors is not good enough.
